Boat Care Topics We Cover

Cleaning and washing.

Routines, products and mistakes to avoid, especially with salt and sun. When you’d rather hand it off, our biweekly or monthly wash plans take it off your list.

Detailing and protection.

Oxidation, polishing, wax and coatings. Learn when DIY makes sense and when boat detailing or a ceramic coating will save you time.

Repairs and restoration.

Gelcoat chips, fiberglass cracks, bottom paint and refinishing. Small problems are easier to fix early, and our articles help you spot them. For hands-on help, see fiberglass and gelcoat repair.

Storage and storm season.

Hurricane prep, summer layup and moving a boat safely. We cover how shrink wrap and haul-out fit into a protection plan.

Seasonal Boat Care Tips for Southwest Florida

Our boating calendar runs differently from most of the country, so timing matters:

Peak season

Winter and spring.

Peak boating season here. Keep up regular washing and check wax or coating protection before the heaviest use.

June 1

Early summer.

Hurricane season starts June 1. It’s the time to make a storm plan, book any haul-out early, and look at bottom paint before the boat sits.

Heat & storms

Late summer and fall.

Heat, sun and afternoon storms are hardest on finishes and canvas. Watch for oxidation, chalking and fading.

Heading north

Before you leave for the season.

If you head north for part of the year, arrange washing or storage before you go.

Our seasonal checklist goes into more detail.

A Note on Our Advice

Every boat is different. Our articles explain general practices; the right approach for your boat depends on its materials, age, use and storage. When in doubt, send us photos and we’ll tell you what we’d do.
