Cleaning & Protection
Every boat is different, so we don’t sell one detailing package and force every vessel into it. At Hands On Deck, we provide boat detailing in Fort Myers and across Southwest Florida that restores and maintains your boat’s appearance from bow to stern, with the correction matched to the actual condition of the finish.
What a Full Detail Can Include
Depending on the boat, a detail covers some or all of the following:
- Deep cleaning of exterior and interior surfaces
- Oxidation removal on gelcoat that’s turned chalky or faded
- Compounding and polishing to bring back depth and gloss
- Waxing for a protective layer that makes the boat easier to clean
- Stainless and metal care for rails, cleats and fittings
- Vinyl and upholstery cleaning for seating and cushions
- Non-skid cleaning to lift the dirt that settles into textured decks
- Glass treatment for windshields and enclosures
We’ll talk through which of these your boat needs before any work starts.
Matching the Correction to the Finish
A boat that’s been well kept may only need a polish and wax. A weathered boat with heavy oxidation needs compounding first, which removes the damaged surface layer before polishing brings the shine back. Doing more correction than the finish needs wastes gelcoat; doing less leaves the haze behind. We look at the boat first and set the process from there.

Wax or Ceramic Coating?
Once the finish is corrected, it needs protection. A traditional wax is reliable and affordable, and we usually recommend reapplying it about every three months in our climate. A ceramic coating costs more up front but lasts longer between applications. For heavy-contact areas, Yacht Armor film adds a physical layer that wax and coatings can’t.
01
Detailing Before a Sale
A clean, glossy boat photographs better and shows better at a walkthrough. If you’re getting ready to sell, a detail is one of the simplest ways to make a strong first impression. Dealers can also set up a recurring program through our dealership services.
02
Keep It Looking That Way
The easiest way to protect a fresh detail is a regular boat washing schedule. Salt and bird droppings left on a newly polished finish undo the work faster than most owners expect.

What does a full boat detail include?
A full detail usually covers deep cleaning, oxidation removal, compounding, polishing, waxing, metal care, vinyl cleaning, non-skid and glass. The exact list depends on the boat’s condition and what you want from it.
How much does it cost to detail a boat?
Detailing price is driven by length, how much oxidation needs to come off, the interior’s condition and whether you add ceramic coating. We don’t publish flat prices because two boats of the same length can need very different amounts of work. Our guide to understanding boat detailing costs explains each factor. For a real number, we price your boat after seeing it.
How often should a boat be detailed?
It depends on how the boat is used and stored. Boats in open slips or heavy use need detailing more often than lightly used boats kept under cover, with wax refreshed between details. We’ll suggest a schedule for yours.
