Repair & Refinishing
When gelcoat is too far gone to polish back, or you simply want a new color, a professional refinish changes the whole boat. We provide boat painting in Fort Myers for boat owners across Southwest Florida, from localized repairs to full hull and topside color changes, with the preparation that makes a marine paint job last.
Brands we work with

A Paint Job Is Mostly Preparation
The final coats get the attention, but the finish depends on everything that happens before them. Depending on the job, our refinishing process includes:
- Hardware removal where it’s required for a clean edge
- Masking of everything that isn’t being painted
- Sanding, fairing and body work to get the surface straight
- Primer build and guide coating to reveal low spots before final sanding
- Final sanding and contamination control
- Base and topcoat application, plus clearcoat where the selected system calls for it
- Final finishing for an even, consistent gloss
Skipping any of these shows up later as poor adhesion, uneven gloss or color that doesn’t match from panel to panel.
Paint Systems We Use
Our preferred paint systems include Awlcraft (from Awlgrip) and PPG products. We select them according to the substrate, the finish you expect, the type of repair and the application requirements. When gelcoat is the better match for the boat and the look you want, we can also respray the vessel in gelcoat instead of paint.

What We Refinish
- Spot and panel repairs after fiberglass and gelcoat repair
- Topsides and hull sides, including full color changes
- Restoring the original color on a faded or oxidized boat
- Two-tone and custom color schemes for owners who want a new look
Bottom antifouling is a separate system with its own prep; see our bottom paint page for work below the waterline.
Paint or Gelcoat Respray?
Both can look excellent. Linear polyurethane-type paint systems typically hold gloss and color well and can be refreshed by polishing. Gelcoat is thicker and repairs the same way as the original finish, which some owners prefer for future touch-ups. We’ll recommend one based on the boat, how it’s stored and how you plan to maintain it.
FAQ
Boat Painting FAQs
Don’t see yours? Call the shop and talk to the team directly.
What does it cost to paint a boat?
Cost depends on the size of the boat, how much fairing and body work the surface needs, the paint system, and whether you’re changing color or restoring the original. Prep labor is usually the biggest variable. We’ll quote it after a walkthrough.
Should I paint the boat or just polish it?
If boat detailing can bring the gelcoat back, that’s the simpler and less expensive route. When the gelcoat is worn thin, crazed or heavily repaired, refinishing is usually the better long-term answer.
How long does a full repaint take?
It depends on the prep the boat needs and the system we’re applying. We’ll give you a realistic schedule with the estimate and keep you updated while the boat is in the shop.
